Electrical problems can range from a single outlet that suddenly stops working to breakers that repeatedly trip or lights that flicker whenever an appliance turns on. Whatever you are experiencing, electrical issues deserve a proper diagnosis. Simply resetting a breaker or replacing an outlet won’t solve the underlying problem.

Electrical Problems We Repair

You may need electrical repair services if you notice:

  • Breakers that repeatedly trip
  • Outlets or switches that no longer work
  • Lights that flicker or dim unexpectedly
  • Buzzing or crackling sounds
  • Frequently blown fuses
  • Warm or discolored outlets and switches
  • Electrical components that smell like they are burning
  • Appliances that cause breakers to trip
  • Lights that become noticeably brighter or dimmer
  • Intermittent power to part of the home

These symptoms can have many possible causes, which is why accurate troubleshooting matters. A tripping breaker, for example, could indicate an overloaded circuit, damaged wiring, a faulty device, or another problem elsewhere on the circuit.

Our electricians work to identify what is actually causing the issue before recommending a repair.

Electrical Troubleshooting and Diagnosis

Good electrical repair starts with finding the source of the problem.

Electrical systems are interconnected, and the component where you notice a problem is not necessarily the component causing it. A dead outlet could be related to another outlet upstream on the circuit. Flickering lights could point to a loose connection rather than a problem with the light fixture itself. A breaker that keeps tripping may be doing exactly what it was designed to do because another electrical problem is present.

Our electricians inspect and test the appropriate components to narrow down the cause of the issue. Once we understand what is happening, we will explain the problem clearly and discuss your repair options.

That approach helps avoid unnecessary work and addresses the underlying electrical issue instead of repeatedly treating the same symptom.

Circuit Breaker and Electrical Panel Repairs

Your electrical panel distributes power to circuits throughout your home, while circuit breakers are designed to interrupt power when unsafe electrical conditions occur.

If a breaker trips once because too many devices were operating on a circuit, resetting it may solve the immediate problem. If the same breaker continues to trip, however, there is usually a reason.

We provide electrical repair and troubleshooting for panel and breaker problems, including frequently tripped breakers, damaged breakers, loose electrical connections, and other performance concerns.

If we determine that an older panel no longer provides the capacity or reliability your home needs, we can also discuss whether an electrical panel upgrade would be a more appropriate long-term solution. We will help you understand the condition of your system so you can make an informed decision rather than replacing equipment unnecessarily.

Outlet, Switch, and GFCI Repairs

An outlet that stops working can be inconvenient, but it can also indicate a problem elsewhere on the circuit.

Our technicians troubleshoot and repair standard receptacles, switches, and GFCI outlets throughout the home. We can address loose connections, damaged devices, failed GFCIs, and other issues affecting proper operation.

GFCI protection is especially important in locations where electricity may be exposed to moisture, including kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoor areas.

If an outlet feels unusually warm, shows signs of discoloration, produces sparks, or has a burning odor, stop using it and have the problem professionally evaluated.

Call (619) 224-0672 to schedule outlet or switch repair in San Diego.

Wiring and Circuit Repairs

Wiring problems can be especially difficult for homeowners to identify because most of the electrical system is hidden behind walls, ceilings, and other finished surfaces.

Damaged connections, overloaded circuits, deteriorated wiring, and improper previous electrical work can all contribute to problems throughout the home.

In older San Diego homes, electrical systems may have been modified several times as previous owners added appliances, remodeled rooms, or expanded the property. If you are experiencing recurring electrical problems, a professional evaluation can help determine whether an isolated repair or a more substantial rewiring is needed.

Our team can repair electrical circuits, correct wiring problems, and recommend upgrades when the existing system is no longer appropriate for the home’s needs.

Lighting and Ceiling Fan Repairs

A light that flickers or a ceiling fan that stops operating properly does not always mean the fixture itself needs to be replaced. The issue may involve a switch, wiring connection, circuit, or another electrical component.

Our electrical repair services include troubleshooting for indoor and outdoor lighting, switches, ceiling fans, and related electrical connections.

If several lights are experiencing problems at the same time, or lighting changes when major appliances operate, let your technician know. Those details can provide useful information when diagnosing the electrical system.

Electrical Repairs for Older San Diego Homes

San Diego is home to many older properties built decades ago, and these older electrical systems can present challenges as household power needs continue to grow.

A system originally designed for a much smaller electrical load may now be supporting modern kitchen appliances, home offices, entertainment equipment, air conditioning, EV charging, and other technology.

That does not automatically mean an older home needs extensive electrical replacement. It does mean recurring breaker trips, overloaded circuits, aging components, or questionable previous modifications should be evaluated rather than ignored.

Some older San Diego homes also contain aluminum branch-circuit wiring, which can be more prone to loose connections and overheating if it is not properly terminated. Our team provides aluminum wiring remediation to ensure your electrical system is safe and up to code.

Point Loma Electric, Plumbing, Heating & Air has served San Diego since 1988. We can help identify what needs attention now, what may need to be upgraded in the future, and which parts of your system are still doing their job properly.

FAQs

Electrical Repairs - Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my circuit breaker keep tripping?

A breaker may trip because a circuit is overloaded, a connected device has a problem, or there is an electrical fault somewhere on the circuit. If the same breaker repeatedly trips, avoid repeatedly resetting it without determining why. An electrician can troubleshoot the circuit and identify the cause.

A dead outlet can be caused by a failed receptacle, a tripped breaker, a tripped GFCI, a loose connection, or another issue on the same circuit. Because outlets can be connected to other electrical devices upstream, the problem is not always located at the outlet that stopped working.

An occasional flicker from a loose bulb may be simple to correct. Repeated flickering, particularly across multiple lights or when appliances operate, can indicate a wiring, connection, circuit, or electrical service issue. Have recurring flickering professionally evaluated.

Yes. Point Loma Electric, Plumbing, Heating & Air provides electrical repair services for homes of many ages. We can evaluate aging electrical components, wiring problems, circuits, panels, and previous electrical modifications and recommend appropriate repairs or upgrades.

It depends on what is causing the problem and the condition of the existing electrical system. An isolated failed component may only require repair. Recurring overloads, insufficient electrical capacity, or aging equipment may make an upgrade a better long-term option. Our technicians can evaluate the system and explain your options.

I am very pleased with this company because they have great people working for them. [My technician] was organized and all were at the house in 2 days. Paper booties were worn. The electricians knew what they were doing and produce excellent work. I had 3 new circuits put in along with updating box. All this was done in one day. This co also sends a pix of technician who is coming to your house. Every person had lovely manners, and cleaned up, even vacuumed under stove when it was moved. A fine experience and I’d use them again.

I had a water leak at my house and its cause was extremely difficult to find. Our tech spent a long time carefully analyzing and testing all possible options until he found the cause of the leak, like really a true detective, that nobody else before him was able to find. He demonstrated not only that he is a truly top professional but the he also is kind, patient and understanding. He explained all the issues very well and was also mindful of my time and convenience. He works very fast, efficiently and reliably and is extremely nice human being.

This is a great team. I had to replace some fluorescent lights in the kitchen. I couldn't do it myself because the ballasts had to be replaced and that's above my skill level. Anthony and Matt came today and put in new led lights (with a 10 year warranty- fluorescent lights are ancient tech). Anthony and Matt were very professional and efficient. I would recommend them highly!
